The Role of Autophagy-related Proteins of Beclin-1/BECN1, LC3II, and p62/SQSTM1 in Melanoma Tumors

Purpose: The prognosis of melanoma depends on early diagnosis and timely treatment. Autophagy plays a dual role in tumor progression. In the stages, it prevents formation, while advanced stages promotes tumorigenicity. This study aimed at investigating autophagy different evaluating relationship between clinicopathological factors. Methods: ATG5 BECN1 genes expression tumors were evaluated retrospective 5 years cancer institute Tehran, Iran. autophagy-related proteins correlation with data also investigated tissue microarray series 52 following by immunohistochemical staining for autophagy-associated p62/SQSTM1 (p62), LC3II Beclin-1/BECN1. possibility biomarkers was predicted ROC curve analysis. Results: gene decreased comparison margins. However, protein level increased raised p62 declined as progressed, suggesting an activity during development. Furthermore, ulceration positively correlated BECN1, p<0.05, though mitotic rate thickness did not significantly correlate autophagy–related expression. Conclusions: Autophagy-related are suggested potential prognostic factors could be considered therapeutic target.
